Why 16 April matters
Every year, worldwide, 16 April is observed as World Voice Day to celebrate the phenomenon of the human voice. Celebrations began in Brazil when the Brazilian Society of Laryngology and Voice marked National Voice Day on 16 April 1999. Many countries followed, and in 2002 the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery officially recognised the day as World Voice Day.
The objective is to highlight voice as a communication tool and to spread global awareness of preventing voice problems, training and maintaining the artistic voice, and teaching professional voice users how to care for their voice. Each year the World Voice Day organisation brings out a theme or motto. Centres, hospitals and voice clinics hold activities to commemorate the day. At APSI, we share activities taking place across India.
